Miscreants ambushed an advance security convoy of Manipur CM

Imphal: In a brazen attack ahead of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s scheduled visit to Jiribam district, armed miscreants ambushed an advance security convoy on Monday morning. The incident occurred at Laijang near Kotlen Sinam village in Kangpokpi district, resulting in one security personnel sustaining injuries. The injured personnel, identified as Moirangthem Ajesh alias Bobo, 32, son of Shyamjai of Thanga Ngaram Leikai in Bishnupur district, was struck by a bullet in the back of his right shoulder. According to sources, the convoy was en route to Jiribam to assess the tense situation when it was attacked from a nearby hilltop. In response to the ambush, additional security forces were deployed to the area to regain control and ensure safety. Chief Minister Biren Singh, who was in Delhi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is arriving in Imphal today. Singh is scheduled to visit the troubled border district of Jiribam to assess the prevailing situation. Tensions in Jiribam have risen in recent days following the murder of 65-year-old Soibam Sarat Singh by unknown armed miscreants on June 6. His body was found with head wounds caused by sharp objects. The suspected militants also torched two police outposts and around 70 homes in fresh violence.
