Historic Baan Theatre confers ‘Baan Theatre Loka Shilpi Bota’

A Correspondent, Tezpur, June 20:118 years old historic Baan Theatre which is one of the earliest and premier theatre organisations in Assam conferred the first ever Baan Theatre Loka Shilpi Bota ( Baan Theatre Folk Artiste Award ) on prominent folk artiste of the state Dhanada Pathak who is popularly known as 'Empress of Folk Song' on Saturday at an august function held at Baan Theatre to commemorate the 56th death anniversary of one of the doyens of Assamese culture and nation Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha. The award carries citation, splendid attire, Gamosa , memento, packet of books and a notable amount of cash money. The award instituted to honour noted artists of the state in consonance with Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Diwas every year in memory of noted artist Prabin Bora was presented this year for the first time to Dhanada Pathak for her remarkable contributions to the field of Assamese folk song by MLA, Tezpur Prithviraj Rabha, President of Baan Theatre Bankim Sarma, Chief Guest of the programme Principal of Loka Nayak Omeo Kumar Das College Dr Sukadev Adhikari, General Secretary of Baan Theatre Jitumani Deva Choudhury and Hiren Borah, brother of the late artist Prabin Borah. Delivering a speech on the programme, son of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha MLA Prithviraj Rabha remembered the unmatched contributions made by the Kalaguru towards Assamese nation, society and Assamese cultural field. Chief Guest Sukadev Adhikari in his speech highlighted the role of folk song in Assamese life and lore and its trajectories. Dr Adhikari also discussed the contributions of Bishnu Prasad Rabha and its enduring impact on multidimensional aspects of Assamese society. Artiste Dhanada Pathak after receiving the award said in her speech that the award conferred on her by the Baan Theatre is among one of the most prestigious awards ever she received and she considers the award as the best achievement of her life. On behalf of the late artist Prabin Borah's family his son Samrat Borah also shared his thoughts and feelings on the occasion during the programme. Radio artiste Geeta Bhuyan, Lakhyahira Das, Simanta Kakati, Paban Das and Bitopan Bora entertained the guests by presenting lokageet and songs of Bishnu Prasad Rabha respectively while Mitali Borthakur's group of Srijani Music College amazed the audience with presentation of their dance based on the songs of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha. At the outset General secretary of Baan Theatre Jitumani Deva Choudhury delivered the welcome address while executive member of the organisation Pankaj Barua moderated the entire programme presided over by Bankim Sarma, President, Baan Theatre.
