Achyut Lahkar remembered on his death anniversary

A Correspondent, Bajali, June 12: The death anniversary of Achyut Lahkar, the doyen of mobile theatre was observed at BHB College, Sarupeta on June 12. The programme was observed under the aegis of the Mobile Theatre Audience Forum, Assam in cooperation with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), BHB College. On the occasion a documentary ‘Jyotirupa’ showcased based on the life, creative works and contributions of Renu Dutta Borphukan. Borphukan holds the tag of first woman police officer and first women playback singer of Assamese Mobile Theatre. The event was anchored by BHB College Governing body member Dr. Saruj Das where Dr. Nayan Jyoti Das, Principal BHB College delivered the welcome speech. In his speech Dr. Das said that Achyut Lahkar had initiated a new model in the art history of Assam in the year 1963 by developing an indigenous form of theatre group, which was mobile in character and had the ability to provide livelihood opportunities to thousands of artists in the state. Attending the event Dr. Phanidhar Talukdar, retired faculty of BHB College, cultural activist Kalpa Talukdar, Pranab Jyoti Barman, Atul Mazumdar among others spoke on the life and philosophy of Achyut Lahkar. Dr. Dipul Talukdar, IQAC coordinator of the college thanked 'Mobile Theatre Audience Forum, Assam' for organising the event in collaboration with the college.
