Silchar, February 25: Assam Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria during his two-day Barak Valley tour, today visited SM Dev Civil Hospital at Silchar in Cachar district. The Governor visited the Blood Centre, emergency ward, OPD and took stock of the facilities available. Taking stock of the demand and supply of the blood bank, the Governor asked the hospital authority to arrange for a felicitation ceremony, honoring the altruistic donors whose contributions have breathed life to countless individuals. The Governor visited the emergency ward, saw the patient registration process and the quality of health care provided. He also interacted with the patients, took stock of their well-being and the adequacy of the amenities at their disposal. He also inspected the patient ward with particular emphasis on ensuring hygiene in the ward. The Governor visited the OPD, and took stock of the registration procedures and the availability of essential medications. He also advocated for a token-based registration system for the convenience of the patients and hospital administration. Shri Kataria also enquired about the hospital’s future expansion plan to cater to the increasing needs of the patients. The Governor later visited a dwelling house built under the PMAY-G scheme in Udharbond Gaon Panchayat and interacted with the beneficiaries to take stock of the firsthand accounts of the transformative impact of their newfound home. He also took care of the water and sanitation facilities, underscoring the importance of basic amenities in fostering dignified living standards. Later, Kataria also paid a visit to the Salganga Gaon Panchayat office and took stock of the financial utilization by the panchayat, including the enrollment status of the MNREGA scheme within its jurisdiction.
