Dibrugarh, February 25: The All-Dibrugarh District Koch Rajbongshi Student Union (AKRSU) today presented the ‘Chilarai Award’ to Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia, President of Dibrugarh Sahitya Sabha and Principal of Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Surajmall Kanoi College (DHSK College). The award was presented to the prominent writer on the occasion of the 514th Bir Chilarai Day at Laxminath Bezbarua Bhawan, Dibrugarh for contribution to the society. The meeting was presided by Diganta Saikia, President, AKRSU, Dibrugarh District. After receiving the award Dr. Saikia compared Bir Chilarai with Alexander of the great in ancient Assam and he also said that the new generation has a lot to learn from Bir Chilarai. Dr. Saikia said the new generation should know about Chilarai and study the Chilarai Empire to find the roots of the Assamese nation. There are many ways in which you can improve your self-confidence. Therefore, the new generation must adopt the ideals of this great warrior. The 'Assam Aditya' newspaper editor and prominent writer Manjit Bora said that the nation must always be connected with its roots. Without roots, a nation never prospers. Therefore, it is important to preserve the traditions, culture and folklore of the Koch Rajbongshi. The veteran journalist Manjit Bora inaugurated the Souvenir 'Prabahman' edited by Prasanta Saikia on the occasion of Bir Chilarai Day. The cultural rally was inaugurated by journalist Hiranya Bora. The program was inaugurated by AKRSU District President Diganta Saikia with flag hoisting and Professor Saral Dutta of Lahwal College lighting the lamp. Flowering to the martyrs by Commandant Suman Das. The AKRSU District Secretary Pranjal Dutta paid tribute to the martyrs. The open session was inaugurated by former Vice-Principal of DHS Kanoi College Narendra Mahela. He explains with thought provoking speech, the life of Bir Chilarai and contribution to the society. The meeting was chaired by Prasanta Saikia and welcome speech was delivered by District Secretary Pranjal Dutta.
