Guwahati, July 18: The first executive meeting of the Assam Wrestling Association (AWA) was held today at its office in Guwahati. AWA newly appointed president Ratul Sarma chaired the meeting, where Water Resources minister and AWA chief patron Pijush Hazarika attended the meeting to encourage the delegates and players coming from 26 districts across the state. He also assured to provide utmost support for the development of players. Gaurang Rai, AWA general secretary, anchored the meeting. AWA Chief advisor Ujjwal Baruah, General secretary of Assam Table Tennis Association Gitartha Das, social workers Gopal Jalan, Abhijit Nath, Akash Phukan and others were present in the meeting. It is to be mentioned that the Gauhati High Court on June 25 last stayed the July 11 polls on a petition filed by the Assam Wrestling Association. But, the Supreme Court on July 18 effectively lifted the stay recently imposed by the Gauhati High Court on elections to the executive committee of the Wrestling Federation of India
