97th birth anniv of Mahim Bora celebrated at Nowgong College

Hareswar Bora, Nagaon, July 6: Sankardev Sahitya Sora of the historic Nowgong College (autonomous) today celebrated the 99th birth anniversary of the noted Assamese short story teller and poet, Late Mohim Bora at Nowgong College (autonomous) here. Dr Sarat Borkatoki, principal of the college initiated the commemoration programme by chairing as well as lighting the ceremonial lamp. Thagit Mahanta, president of Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha attended the programme as the chief guest while Padum Rajkhuwa, principal of Kolongpar Vidyapith Senior Secondary school and former secretary general of Asom Sahitya Sabha was present as the special invitee. Dipak Kumar Bora, associate professor, Department of Assamese, Nowgong College elaborated a sketch on ' images of Mohim Bora's poems'. Dr Rupanjali Devi, associate professor, Department of Assamese anchored the entire programme. While speaking on contributions of Mohim Bora to Assamese literature, Thagit Mahanta, president of Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha said litterateur Mohim Bora will remain evergreen for his beautiful poems and short stories. Dr Sarat Borkatoki, principal of the college ensured the college will celebrate the birth centenary of Mohim Bora next year. Over hundred of students, teachers and other dignitaries from Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha were present in the programme, a release stated here.
