WR minister Pijush Hazarika visits flood-affected areas in Baksa-Nalbari

Staff Reporter, Pathsala: Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika and Jayanta Mallabaruah, Minister Public Health Engineering, Skill Development Employment & Entrepreneurship and Tourism on Friday visited the flood-affected areas of Baksa and Nalbari districts and took stock of the flood situation and facilities provided to the flood victims. In the first half, the minister's reached Jartaluk area located in Baganpara subdivision of Baksa district and took stock of the flood and erosion of Pagladiya River. They also inspected newly constructed embankments there. Minister Hazarika ordered the departmental engineers to renovate the 2 km long embankment with increasing its width within the next year so that the locals are able to get a food free life. The minister also spoke with the flood-affected people there. The minister ordered the Deputy Commissioner to release the one-time grant on time to the people whose houses had been damaged in the flood. In the afternoon, both ministers visited flood affected areas like Allia Bangaon in Paschim Nalbari, Gohain Kamal under Nalbari district and took stock of the flood and erosion of Pagladiya River. The minister ordered all the engineers, officials and other workers of the department to do more hard work and take emergency measures to protect the embankments. While speaking with the media the water resource minister said that till now 3 embankments in Barama, Bhawanipur and Nowboicha breached in 4 different parts. In the meantime the water resource department is repairing all the embankments with adequate manpower and a speedy action mood. Hazarika also said that due to appropriate precaution and scientific based steps the department is getting success compared to the last couple of years in flood prone areas like Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sadia, Morigaon.
