Guwahati, November 21: A two –day workshop on Brajawali was started from November 20 in Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, organised by Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva (SSS) and Parampara Pravah, the workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, the Education Adviser to the Govt. of Assam. He said that the study of Brajawali was very important in order to understand Srimanta Sankaradeva, He stressed on the increased popularity of Ankiya plays in Brajawali. The inaugural session was anchored by Dr. Mallika Kandali, Director of Parampara Pravah and vice president of SSS and the purpose of the workshop explained by Mridu Moucham Bora, Secretary of Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva . Dr. Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti, President of Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva said that Brajawali was not an artificial language. He further said that the modern Hindi Language had emanated from the Brajawali language used by Srimanta Sankaradeva in the Ankiya plays. Utpal Baruah , President of Parampara Pravah also spoke a few words. Dr. Basanta Kumar Goswami, former General Secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha, was the first resource person. He dwelt on the history of Brajawali language in detail and traced its genesis to the Magadhi Avahattha language. Another resource person Kanaklal Das and Pradip Hazarika , co-ordinator of Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva also attended the inaugural session. Dr. Madhuchanda Chaliha Bhuyan, Vice- President of Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva gave vote of thanks. Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society and International Council for Monuments and Sites are also associated with the workshop.
