Biswanath Chariali, November 16:The Biswanath District Information and Public Relations Department, in collaboration with the Biswanath District Administration and Biswanath Chariali Press Club had organised the National Press Day 2022 at the Circuit House, Biswanath Chariali today. The theme of this year's national Press Day was 'Role of Media in Nation Building'. The programme began with lighting of ceremonial lamps by Amarjyoti Borthakur, mayor of Biswanath Municipal Board. Biswajit Saikia, ADC cum DIPRO (in-charge) forwarded a welcome address. Senior journalist Anirban Roy of Guwahati and Chief Journalist of United News of India North East Abhijit Dey delivered lectures on Role of Media in Nation Building Process. Both the speakers highlighted the specific issue and spoke about the strong, impartial and strong steps to be taken by the media and journalists in nation building through audio-visual media. The event was also attended by Dr. Chinta Mani Sharma, Principal, Biswanath College, Liza Talukdar, ADC Biswanath, Indra Prasad Saikia, senior journalist, Partha Pratim Barua besides others. The district administration felicitated four senior journalists including Sourabh Hazarika, Pulak Hazarika, Dipak Sarma and Bipul Kumar Dihingiya with a citation, gamosa and a memento for their special contribution in the field of journalism. The Biswanath district administration in association with various media forums of the greater Biswanath area had organized a news reading competition among students. The winners of the competition Tapti Dyuti Bora, Arnab Jyoti Borthakur, Archana Sahu, Yochita Ojha, Pawan Mandal and Swagata Mahanta were felicitated with a citation, gamosa and a packet of books. Other senior journalists were also presented with a memento by the team DIPRO, Biswanath. The event was hosted by young writer Bhaskarjyoti Bora. Senior journalist Deepak Sharma delivered a short speech on behalf of the journalists and on behalf of the honored journalists. Dr. Naren Kutum, a senior physician and pediatrician from Biswanath, was also thanked for his assistance during the National Press Day. Amir Khan, secretary of Biswanath Press Club offered vote of thanks.
