Guwahati, November 4: The Directorate of Cultural Affairs under Department of Cultural Affairs, Govt of Assam is celebrating its golden jubilee celebration with a yearlong programs & activities. In this connection, a colourful cultural extravaganza was held at Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir of Uzana Bazar, Guwahati on November 4. Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Rabindra Bhawan in collaboration with Luit Konwar Rudra Barua State College of Music, Guwahati, Dr. Shobha Brahma College of Music and Fine Arts, Kokrajhar and Asom Satriya Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Jorhat jointly organized the programme. The program was inaugurated by Director, Cultural Affairs Meenakshi Das Nath, ACS. The event was attended by Padma Shri Jatin Goswami, prominent Playwright and Director Dulal Roy & Abinash Sharma and retired Joint Secretary to Cultural Affairs Department Anjali Nayar as guests of honour. The event was also attended by the Principals of the three colleges namely, Pandit Bidyut Mishra, Lardly Brahma, and Sarangpani Bardoloi. The students of the three colleges presented beautiful and vibrant different art forms. In the very beginning the artistes performed Mahapurushiya Gayan Bayan followed by Borgeet, Classical & Folk singing performance, followed by Devotional music, Sattriya dance, Bardwisikhla dance, Dhal Thungri, Boro folk songs, Kathak dance, Violin recital, Sattriya Bahar dance and others eye catching performances during the programme. It is very important to state that the Directorate of Cultural Affairs separated from the Janasanyog Department from November 1, 1971. After, in the year 1987 an independent Department of Cultural Affairs was created by the Government of Assam. The Directorate of Cultural Affairs came under the purview of the Cultural Affairs Department. The Mandate of the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Assam is to preserve and promote all forms of art & culture.
