North Lakhimpur, November 30: An open debating competition for the personnel of Assam Police was organized today in North Lakhimpur. The debating competition was organized by Lakhimpur Police in collaboration with Lakhimpur Commerce College,North Lakhimpur. The competition, held at the Lakhimpur Commerce College seminar hall, was inaugurated by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college and it was chaired by Ashabur Rahman, advocate, Gauhati High Court and an eminent orator of yesteryears. Senior advocate Rajib Gogoi of North Lakhimpur, senior scribe and activist Farhana Ahmed and ex-president of North Lakhimpur Press Club Surajeet Bhuyan attended the debating competition as judges. The debating topic "According to house, it is possible for the police to proceed investigation smoothly without violating the human rights of the accused" drew participation from serving police personnel from various police stations and outposts of Lakhimpur district. A total of eighteen participants took part in the debating competition. Robin Bora, who debated for the motion was adjudged as the best debater in the competition. Diganta Saikia, who argued against the motion declared second best while the third position jointly went to Palash Pratim Gogoi and Debajeet Borah, both speaking against the motion. The debating competition for the police personnel was attended by Lakhimpur Superintendent of Police Dr. Bedanta Madhab Rajkhowa, Adl. SP Runa Neog and other officers from the Lakhimpur Police. The entire debating competition was anchored by Sazzad Hussain, HoD-English, Lakhimpur Commerce College and eminent columnist.
