Birsa Munda remembered

Staff Reporter, Biswanath Chariali, November 15: The 147th birth anniversary of martyr Birsa Munda organized by the primary branch of Assam Munda Mahasabha was held at Munda Basti, Jamugurihat today along with various parts of the country. The birth anniversary of the national martyr held at SriSri Kali Than, Munda Basti began with hoisting of the flag by Mahendra Munda, former president of the regional committee of Munda Mahasabha followed by swahid tarpan by Jagat Munda. A series of competitions were organized among the students to commemorate the special day. The open session began with a chorus which was held with Jagat Munda in the chair. Lalan Orang, retired teacher graced the occasion as an appointed teacher who had highlighted the contributions of the legendary leader and national martyr as well and his special role for all round development of the Adivasi community. The meeting was attended by Ganga Devi, panchayat president of Dakhin Shilabandha GP as chief guest. Chenaram Munda, president of the Sonitpur district committee of Munda Mahasabha conducted the proceedings of the open session. A series of cultural activities were also performed amid the session.
