Pathsala, November 22: A special lecture programme has been organized by the Department of History, Bhattadev University in collaboration with the Bajali district administration to mark the 400th birth anniversary of the Assamese legend Mahaveer Lachit Barphukan on November 22. The programme was organized in the conference hall of the new academic building in the university campus which was well attended by the faculties , students and invited guests. Dr Sunil Pawan Baruah, a renowned historian and columnist who was invited for the lecture, has delivered his valuable talk on the topic ‘Life and works of Lachit Barphukan'. Dr Baruah also highlights the various aspects of Lachit Barphukan’s life and achievements and his relevance even to the present day. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Subhash Das, Academic Registrar of Bhattadev University. The lecture session was presided over by ArindamTalukdar, HoD, History. The other prominent persons present in the programme were Sarat Talukdar,Associate Dean, Students Welfare,
Parag Barman, Director i/c Students Welfare and officials of university and district administration. Furthermore, the University Authority, on the eve of Lachit Barphukan’s 400th birth anniversary, also organised a poster making competition on Ahom Mughal Conflict and an essay writing competition on Life and achievements of Lachit Barphukan amongst the students of the University. Few of the posters of the competition were displayed in the conference hall.The name and fame of Lachit Barphukan and his achievements shall be known to all the fellow Indians.For ages, their heroics have been sublimed in Indian history.
