TMC reacts on infant and maternal death at Tezpur Medical College

Staff Reporter, Guwahati, October 21: Assam TMC vehemently criticizes the CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma led BJP ruled Assam Government Health Department after media reports published in vernacular dailies stated about the death of 62 infants and 11 pregnant women at Tezpur Medical College Hospital in the last 2 months. In a press release, Assam TMC reacted that since Independence the present CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has been the longest-serving health Minister in Assam but due to his failure in the role now the condition of the state’s health department worsens. The latest example of this is the report which says within 2 months 62 infants and 11 pregnant women died in The Tezpur Medical College and Hospital. According to the data, a health care center should be there for 1 lakh 20 thousand people, but this center in Sonitpur district is serving 8 lakh people. As a result, people are deprived of good health services at those centers. Tezpur Medical college authority said that due to a lack of adequate health services, neonatal death occurs in those primary health centers and Civil Hospitals. Assam TMC further alleges that present health minister Keshab Mahanta doesn’t have a clue what is happening in the State. In the last few days, death due to medical negligence is increasing in the State. Assam TMC demanded proper action on this from the BJP Government.
