ULFA (I) call for 'bandh' on Independence Day

Abhijit Chaliha, Guwahati, August 6: The central government launched ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage people to bring the Tiranga home and to hoist it to mark the 75th year of India’s independence with nationalistic fervour. In the same time banned rebel outfits United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) on August 5 have called for a total ban on the celebration of India’s 75th Independence Day in Assam and Northeast. “People "at all levels" to not participate in all forms of ‘fake’ Independence Day activities. There will be a shutdown from midnight to 6 pm. However, "emergency departments, media, and religious activities" are being exempted”- a release added by the ULFA(I) official.
It is to be recalled that ULFA(I) has been demanding Assam's sovereignty for many decades. Similarly, the state government led by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma is planning to hoist around 80 lakh national flags in the state as a part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations.
