SOS Children’s Village celebrates Raksha Bandhan

Nikhil Kumar Mundra, Hojai, August 12: In synchronization with other parts of the country, the festival of Raksha Bandhan signifying the tying of holy threads (rakhis) by sisters on the wrists of their brothers was celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety across Hojai district on Friday. Sisters tied ‘rakhis’ and offered sweets to their brothers and wished them a healthy and wealthy life. On this pious day, two teams from SOS Children’s Village from Hojai and Guwahati comprising of 16 children visited CM residence other 16 children visited Raj Bhawan in Guwahati, accompanied by Hojai Village Director Rakesh Sinha and Guwahati Village Director Subhod Das celebrated Raksha Bandhan with Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at his residence in Guwahati and Governor of Assam Professor Jagdish Mukhi and first lady Prem Mukhi at Raj Bhawan in Guwahati on friday. At Raj Bhawan the SOS team greeted the Governor on Raksha Bandhan. They tied Rakhis to the Governor and first lady. On the other hand, the team greeted CM Sarma and tied Rakhi to him. The Governor and CM interacted with the children and took information about SOS Children's Village of India. They said this festival would further strengthen the spirit of oneness amongst us, enrich the bonds of brotherhood, amity and harmony and would be a pioneer of peace, progress and prosperity. The Governor and CM further thanked the children for tying Rakhis on them and wished them a bright future ahead.On the other hand, SOS Children’s Village in Hojai also Celebrated Raksha Bandhan with pomp and gaiety. A team of SOS Children’s Village tied Rakhi to Deputy Commissioner of Hojai Anupam Choudhury. Meanwhile, as part of 75 years of celebration of Independence day and on the occasion of Raksha bandhan, Superintendent of Police Barun Purkayastha, ASP Ponjit Dowarah, DSP Rosy Talukdar,OC Tapan Medhi visited the SOS campus here in Hojai. They were warmly welcomed by the SOS family and the girls tied rakhi to all the guests. The guests also interacted with children and highlighted the significance of Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan.
