CM Dr. Sarma inspects progress of construction of Swahid Smarak and Udyan

Staff Reporter, Guwahati, August 26: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today visited the construction site of Swahid Smarak and Udyan, which is being developed in memory of the martyrs of Assam Agitation in an area of around 99 bigha at Paschim Boragaon in the city and took stock of its progress. The project will have a Swahid Smarak, open air theatre, library, auditorium, yoga & meditation centre, cycling track etc. Around 50% work of the first phase of the project is completed and remaining works are expected to be over by next year. While reviewing the progress, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma asked the PWD Department to develop an impressive food court at the site with a facility to serve cuisines of all north eastern states and a play area for children. Dr. Sarma also asked the department to take necessary steps for widening the road leading to the site from the National Highway for hassle-free movement of vehicles. The Chief Minister said that the Swahid Smarak and Udyan once completed will emerge as a major tourist attraction and asked officials to complete the project in a time bound manner. He also asked the department to float a tender for the second phase of work within the next two months. Minister for Assam Accord Implementation Department Atul Bora, Rajya Sabha MP Pabitra Margherita, Special Commissioner & Secretary PWD (B) Raj Chakraborty were also present during the visit of the Chief Minister.
