JE claims 3 more lives, one infected with swine flu in Nagaon

Bureau Report, Nagaon, July 14: One Anjan Kumar Bora (54) hailing from Naltoli under Kaliabor Subdivision, tested positive for swine flu and he was undergoing treatment at Guwahati Health City Hospital. He was infected with H1N1 virus, basically transmitted from pig, sources from district health services, Nagaon added. Significantly, following the detection of the first case of swine flu, district administration as well as district health services, Nagaon initiated strict measures to curb the infection of the virus across the district at the earliest stage before it would reach the boundary with more infection among the people, sources added further. While speaking to this correspondent here this evening, the newly appointed Joint Director, District Health Services, Nagaon Dr Arup Jyoti Mahanta said that although one confirmed case of swine flu from Naltoli area was recorded in the district till the time of filing this report. He was infected with H1N1 virus basically transmitted from pigs and was admitted in a Guwahati based private hospital where he was undergoing treatment. District Health department concerned has already initiated almost all measures to curb the infection of the virus among the people across the district, Dr Mahanta reiterated further. Simultaneously, Japanese Encephalitis posed a major concern in the flood ravaged areas of the district and claimed the lives of 3 persons among 16 people infected with JE within the last fortnight in undivided Nagaon district. The other 13 people who tested positive for JE, were being treated in various Guwahati based hospitals till the time of filing this report, sources added. Those who died of Japanese Encephalitis have been identified as Chandra Kant Nath (58) of Raha Dighaldori area, Sadananda Boruah (64) of Khutikotia area and Hamidul Islam (48) of Dagaon area. They were all being treated in Guwahati Medical College Hospital after being infected with JE, sources said.
