Flood situation at Nagaon still grim

Minister Atul Bora distributes cheques of Rs 3800 each among 131 families
HARESWAR BORAH, Nagaon, June 28: The flood situation in Nagaon district is still critical and over 20,000 flood hit inmates are still waiting at various relief camps set up by district administration to go back to their respective homes till the time of filing this report, sources added. As per a report issued by district disaster management authority, Nagaon this afternoon, over 5.2 lakhs people are reeling under flood water although the water level has slightly come down during the last couple of days. Meanwhile the state agriculture minister Atul Bora today visited the flood ravaged areas in Kampur and Kothiatoli. During his visit, the minister reviewed the flood situation and inspected the hardships of those flood hit people in the areas. The minister also visited the flood relief camps set up at Kampur College and Kathiatoli Higher Secondary School respectively. During the visit, the minister distributed cheques of Rs 3800 each among 131 flood hit families issued under the scheme of financial assistance for disaster and other calamities by disaster management authority, Nagaon.
The minister was accompanied by local Barhampur MLA Jitu Goswami, Deputy Commissioner Nisarg Hivare and other officials from disaster management authority, Nagaon. It is pertinent to be mentioned that during the visit to review the flood situation in the district, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma announced an immediate monetary relief to be provided soon under disaster management authority to each of the flood hit families with which the flood ravaged people could combat the situation.
