Barpeta, June 21: The seventh International Yoga Day
was celebrated today in the world as well as in Barpeta. District commissioner
Tej Prasad Bhusal officially inaugurated the central yoga day function
organized by the district administration at the auditorium of Madhab Chaudhary
College in Barpeta with the burning of the yoga day. In his speech on the
occasion, he said that yoga helps in keeping our body as well as our mind
healthy. Therefore, he said that today the entire world has officially
recognized such an impeccable contribution to ancient Indian civilization
through the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also urged each and
every one to inculcate the habit of performing yoga in their daily routine for
a healthy body and a sound mind. Additional Deputy Commissioner Nabjit Pathak
and Lakhimi Dutta along with other district officials also participated in the
inaugural function conducted by district information and public relations
officer Bikash Sharma. After the inaugural function Yog Guru Rubul Mishra makes
everyone practice yoga and pranayama. He also explained the usefulness of yoga
practices. Mishra was assisted by Rupam Oja and Babimani Das. The event was
attended by a limited number of local citizens and the officials of various
departments. It may be mentioned that this International yoga day is held
this time with a very limited number of people keeping in view the risk of an
epidemic of Covid-19. In connection with International yoga day, an online
essay competition on the topic “The Role of Yoga” among class 9 to 12 students
was organized in the education department initiative. It may be mentioned here
that International Yoga Day is being widely observed across the district.
